Suicide bombers in yet another skillfully planned ISIS-linked attack on Brussels left Europe reeling just as the world had begun recovering from the terror inflicted on France in November 2015. Threat levels in Belgium rose to level 3 as a result, prompting tightened security measures across multiple branches of Belgian jurisdiction. As festivals are typically a large public safety concern, their security is particularly important.

Chairman of the Federation of Music Festivals in Flanders and Governor of East Flanders Jan Briers is meeting with influential festival organizers on Monday, April 25 to decide what security measures they believe should be added. Tomorrowland organizers are listed as attendants, along with Graspop and Rock Werchter. One rather inconvenient suggestion on Briers’ end is banning backpacks and purses from festivals, a steadfast rule already in place at Belgian sporting events.

The recommendation seems a bit fruitless for camping festivals like Tomorrowland, where there are plenty of other means to sneak in dangerous items. Nonetheless, it is something everyone might agree on and end up recommending to all 200 related events in the region. Organizers and local authorities will ultimately make the final call on which measures they’ll implement, so ticket holders need not worry about carrying their things around Boom’s grounds just yet.
